An Introduction
Shelly has always had an obsession with horses. Her work with horses has included: Head Rider for a leading dressage / eventing yard, freelance dressage trainer and running her own training / livery yard, qualified as a UKCC Level 2 coach, registered as a Trainer with British Dressage, BHS exams, breaking and producing horses for competition, extensive work with American Quarter horses and Trek Leader in the New Forest.
Shelly has trained with some of the best trainers in the country including Jennie Lorriston-Clarke, Isobel Wessels, Adam Kemp, Matt Frost, Serina Pincus and Spencer Wilton. She takes techniques from each of their training systems and incorporates them into her own teaching and training methods.
To keep her approach up-to-date Shelly regularly attends the British Dressage National Trainers convention, as well as other training clinics. Shelly believes that this is very important as you always learn a little more from other professional trainers and riders.
Although having had many horses, Shelly bought, what she considers her first 'proper' horse, in 1996, a 16.3hh Shire x TB 5 year old, who was very sharp!! Lumax, or Cosmic King as most people know him, is now over 18hh and doing FEI Inter I with a view to Grand Prix later this year. 'He has been the best learning tool that I could ever have.', Shelly said. Having trained him from unbroken and wild, up to FEI Inter I.
As well as competing Shelly also enjoys passing on her knowledge and techniques to others, and has fast become a well known and trusted trainer in Wales. Her calm and confident approach is the trademark that she instills in her pupils and horses.
Shelly not only trains dressage riders, but she also trains rider and horses for showjumping, cross country, ridden showing and she also works with people training in Parelli.
Having built up a very successful customer base Shelly is now enjoying the achievements of her clients. Many of whom enjoy success in various disciplines at regional and national level.
